Talent Show and Education Fair

Last night was the boys' "Education Fair and Talent Show" at school. Trent blew the crowd away as he sang "It's Possible" from "Suessical the Musical". For those of you not familiar with the show, Suessical is a musical mix of Dr. Suess' best-loved books. "It's Possible" is based on the book, McElligot's Pool. In the show, a precocious boy named Jojo imagines that his bathtub is actually Mr. McElligot's pool which he believes to be connected to miles and miles of underground rivers holding all kinds of fantastical fish. Now, I think Trent stole the entire show, but hey, I have a right to be biased!
"An underground river that starts here and flows right under the bathtub and then who knows! It's possible! Anything's possible!" Oh yeah - Alex designed, sketched and painted the tub himself. He studied Dr. Suess illustrations to get it to look like it popped out of a Suess book.

Here is Grant showing off his Ocean Project outside his first grade classroom. He researched the "Flatfish". A very unique fish that undergoes metamorphis when one eye actually migrates to the other side of its head before it settles to the bottom of the ocean and camouflages itself in the sand and rock. Grant sculpted and painted his fish and Alex got this cool plastic fish-bowl container from the VBS department at work. Grant also wrote a four paragraph report on his fish. His reading has taken flight and he is now reading chapter books independently. I am so proud of him. A whole new world has opened.
Both boys had to run to a game after the Ed. Fair last night. Grant got a solid line-drive every time he batted. He is really showing improvement. He also got to pitch again last night. Trent's team tied. Trent got 2 great hits to the back of the the infield.

The third grade studied Illinois history. Trent's project was on the Sears Tower. He did it all by himself while at school. He researched at the library and internet, made note cards, wrote the report, drew the sketch and designed the poster.
My little men are growing up. Some mothers constantly mourn the loss of the their "little baby". But I celebrate each milestone and step of independence. Even though I miss their babyhood, it is so fun and rewarding to see their growth. Love you BOYS!
